Photography : Astronomy : OMG It's Full of Stars!

This is a panorama of about 10 images stitched together, showing the Milky Way streching across the sky and the Large Magellanic Cloud just above the horizon on the right. Each exposure takes1 minute (30s image and 30s dark), so this represents 10 minutes of exposure time. When traveling to use a telescope, especially a distant one, it's a good idea to arrive a night early. This gives you a safety window in case of travel delays, for if your plane is delayed and you miss a night on the telescope, you don't get another night to make it up. If you arrive safely, you can check in with the person using the telescope ahead of you and then use the rest of the night to adjust your sleep schedule. I thought it would be tough to stay awake, but seeing the Milky Way center rise over the dorms kept me riveted!
